    Alamo River Trail
The River's current geographical characteristics date back to the 1850's when the California State Legislature proposed development and irrigation of the Imperial Valley using water from the Colorado River. A bypass was dug shortly thereafter with no control/flood gates.

A series of floods between 1904 and 1905 resulted in the rapid erosion and widening of the bypass. This caused the River to flow full force this channel, creating the Alamo River.
